Privacy notice for tenants

How your details are looked after when your landlord uses Jubilee for your lease. Version 2026-10-tenant-v2, updated 27/10/2026.

Who this notice is for

This notice is for tenants: people who rent a home from a landlord who uses Jubilee. Your landlord, or their letting agent, invited you so you can see your lease and report problems.

Who is responsible for your details

Your landlord is responsible for the details they keep about you and your lease. Jubilee stores and protects those details for your landlord and only does what the landlord asks with them. For your login itself, Jubilee is responsible.

What is kept about you

Only what is needed to run your lease.

  • Your login: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored as a one-way scramble, so nobody can read them.
  • Your lease: the dates, rent, deposit and the people living in the home.
  • Your payments: the rent your landlord or agent records as received.
  • Issues you report: what you write, the photos you add and the replies.
  • Inspections: the move-in and move-out records you sign.
  • Documents: your ID or proof of address, if your landlord asks for them.
  • Your choices: when you accepted this notice, which version you read and whether you want product news.

Why it is used

Your details are used to show you your lease and payments, let you report problems, and send the emails the app needs, such as invites, sign-in links and updates on your issues. This is needed to run the lease you have with your landlord.

Product news is only sent if you tick the box for it, and you can stop it at any time.

Your ID documents

An ID document or proof of address is used only to confirm who is on your lease. Only you, your landlord, their team and their agent can see it. It is never used for anything else.

Your payment track record

Your landlord keeps a record of the rent you pay: paid on time, late, short or missed. It is made only from the payments recorded in the app. It stays private to your landlord, their team and their agent. Jubilee does not show it to other landlords.

Who can see your details

Your landlord, the people on their team and the agent who manages your home. Other tenants cannot see anything about you.

We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Where it is stored

Your data is stored by Supabase in Frankfurt, Germany, in the European Union. The app runs on Vercel and emails are sent through Resend. These services may handle your data outside South Africa, under their own security and privacy terms.

How long it is kept

Your landlord keeps your lease records for as long as they need them, including for tax. When your lease ends your landlord may turn off your login. You can ask for your details to be deleted or for anything that links them to you to be removed, unless a law requires them to be kept.

Your rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can:

  • ask what is held about you and get a copy
  • ask for anything that is wrong to be corrected
  • ask for your data to be deleted
  • object to how it is used, and stop product news at any time
  • complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za

Who to ask

Ask your landlord or their agent first: they are responsible for your lease records and can correct most of them in the app. For your login itself, ask Jubilee.
